Women – Concerning bra size, has anybody found the + four or five inches to the band size method to work?

I am reading conflicting methods of accurately measuring bra size. Some say measure band size high in the chest, others say measure under the bust and add four or five inches, which others say to measure under the bust and not to add any inches as it’s the way they used to measure bra size in the 1930′s.

I’m looking for real-world experience with these methods. Which method has worked best for you?

Personally, I use the underbust measurement (the high chest measurement comes out the same anyway) then use the normal difference chart, then actually go to the stores and use it as a guide, try bras on, then deviate from there, as different companies are sized differently, to find what bras fit best.

Has the +5 inches thing ever worked for any of you?

Why has no one answered this in 10 hours?
Anyway… If people do reply, they’ll say it worked purely because they haven’t tried a bra on that fits properly. I wore 32s for years, and found them loose and comfy (I measure 27in under). In April I found out I should be wearing 28s. My God, the difference! Whenever I wear my 32DDs now I find myself permanently pulling it down because it rides up. I find the best for me is to wear a band that’s only 1in bigger than my under bust.
With places like VS permanently spreading the ‘rule’ of having to add 4/5in, it’s good to see that someone knows that’s not correct.
The 5in rule doesn’t work for anyone. Like I said, anyone who said it works doesn’t know a band needs to be about the same measurement as their under bust. This is why there are so many size 10 girls wearing 36 bands, and won’t listen to anyone that tries to explain they’re more in the region of 28/30, and 36 is more for 16/18 women.
